Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy due to the Ochronotic Arthropathy of the Cervical Spine
Ochronosis is a musculoskeletal manifestation of alkaptonuria, a rare hereditary metabolic disorder occurs due to the absence of homogentisic acid oxidase and leading to various systemic abnormalities related to deposition of homogentisic acid pigmentation (ochronotic pigmentation). The present case reports the clinical features, radiographic findings, treatments and results of a cervical spond...
متن کاملCharcot Arthropathy of the Wrist Associated with Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy
Background Charcot arthropathy is a cascade of destructive changes that can effect joints of both the axial and appendicular skeleton. The pathogenesis of this condition centers around the accumulation of minor traumatic events after the loss of normal joint sensation. The most frequently cited cause of Charcot arthropathy of the upper extremity is syringomyelia, and magnetic resonance imaging ...

PURPOSE To evaluate the clinical features, imaging characteristics, surgical options, and clinical outcomes of patients with Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) caused by single-level vertebral spontaneous fusion (SLVSF). METHODS Sixteen consecutive patients with SLVSF who underwent anterior surgery were included in this study and 38 patients with CSM caused by spinal degeneration were enro...

Cervical spondylosis is a condition in which there is progressive degeneration of the intervertebral joints of the cervical spine. It is widespread throughout the adult population such that is has been estimated that on the basis of plain X-rays 50% over the age of 50 years and 75 % over the age of 65 suffer from the condition. It is indeed fortunate that only a small proportion suffer from the...
متن کاملPathogenesis of cervical spondylotic myelopathy.
OBJECTIVE To determine whether either of two mechanical theories predicts the topographic pattern of neuropathology in cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). The compression theory states that the spinal cord is compressed between a spondylotic bar anteriorly and the ligamenta flava posteriorly. The dentate tension theory states that the spinal cord is pulled laterally by the dentate ligaments,...
